Front Porch: Monday is Martin Luther King Jr. Day

Holiday hours

MLK Jr. Day is Monday, so here's a list of places that will be closed:

Government: Federal, state, county and city government offices will be closed.

Garbage collection: Clients should expect regular service.

Schools: There will be no classes that day.

Post offices: Closed.

Commerce: Most banks will be closed.

The Herald: Normal hours.

Transportation: Community Transit will be on regular schedule, but some commuter routes will be suspended. Sound Transit Express buses will be on a regular schedule. There will be no Sounder train service between Everett and Seattle. Everett Transit will be on a regular schedule. For ferry information, go to www.wsdot.wa.gov/ferries or call 888-808-7977.



Historic preservation nominations needed: The Washington state Department of Archaeology and Historic Preservation is seeking nominations for the 22nd annual Awards for Outstanding Achievements in Historic Preservation.

Nominations can be made in one of the following categories: historic preservation planning, historic property rehabilitation projects, career achievement, public education, stewardship, special achievement and media.

Nominations must be postmarked or submitted by 5 p.m. March 9.

Celebrity appearance: Rep. Rick Larsen plans to attend tonight's opening of the Stealth season at Comcast Arena.

The Stealth will be taking on the Calgary Roughnecks in a professional lacrosse game.
