Kastama to reveal how he'll vote on gay marriage bill

In the state Senate, there will be one less uncommitted vote on gay marriage Thursday.
State Sen. Jim Kastama, a conservative Democrat from Puyallup, is calling a news conference at noon to announce how he will vote on legislation to legalize marriage for same-sex couples.
As of today, 23 state senators say they will support the bill that would make Washington the seventh state to recognize marriages of gay and lesbian couples. That is two votes shy of the 25-vote majority required to approve the bill.
Eighteen senators say they oppose the goals espoused in Senate Bill 6239 with nine uncommitted, including Kastama.
It will be an interesting decision for Kastama who is currently a candidate for Secretary of State. No doubt he's decided there is value in announcing now versus waiting to see if it ever reaches the floor of the Senate for him to vote on.
A hearing on the Senate bill is set for Monday morning.
