Sounders sign 19-year-old forward

Associated Press

TUKWILA -- The Seattle Sounders FC have signed 19-year-old forward Cordell Cato from Trinidad and Tobago.

The signing of the young prospect was announced Wednesday, pending receipt of his international transfer clearance and his visa. Cato trained with the Sounders last summer. Seattle coach Sigi Schmid said Cato can provide speed and versatility up front.

Cato was chosen for his country's squad at the 2011 CONCACAF U-20 championships. Most recently, Cato played for Port of Spain's Defence Force FC.
