PULLMAN -- Faisal Aden scored a career-high 33 points and Washington State beat Stanford 81-69 Thursday night.
The Cougars (10-8, 2-4) snapped a three-game losing streak and knocked the Cardinal (15-4, 5-2) out of first place in the conference on a night where hazardous weather kept the crowd at an announced 3,119.
Brock Motum added 16 points and Reggie Moore scored 13 for Washington State. The Cougars made 27 of 29 free throws, with Aden hitting all 13 of his attempts, also a career high.
Josh Owens scored 19 points to lead Stanford and Chasson Randle added 15. Stanford had won its previous three games and lost its share of the Pac-12 lead to California, which beat Washington Thursday night to move to 6-1 in the conference.
Stanford led 42-29 after Aaron Bright's basket with 16:56 to play. But the Cougars chipped away at the Cardinal lead and Aden's layup with 10:49 left tied the game at 51. DaVonte Lacy's 3-pointer with 8:30 remaining put Washington State ahead to stay at 58-55.
Washington State didn't miss a free throw until Marcus Capers made just one of two with 1:32 left, but at that point the Cougars were ahead 74-63. Moore missed the other one 18 seconds later.
Aden's previous career high was 28 points against Fresno State.
The game was the Cougars' first in Pullman since a Dec. 18 win over Western Oregon. They played two games designated as "home" games in Spokane -- against Pac-12 rivals Oregon State and Oregon -- and one in Seattle.
It's the only meeting between the schools this season due to the expansion of the conference.
