Fix may be in works for Everett's Bayside Park
EVERETT -- A north Everett neighborhood park has been fenced off for months -- although a fix may be coming soon.
Since September, a fence has blocked access to part of Bayside Park, a one-acre park off Grand Avenue that includes a p-patch, views of the waterfront and a path partway down the hill.
The city hired a contractor last summer for about $100,000 to work on the path, including adding railings, concrete and lighting. Work screeched to a halt after the city became unhappy with the contractor's work.
Between construction and the dispute, part of the park has been inaccessible since mid-summer. That's left people in the surrounding neighborhood a little grumbly.
"I use the park often," said Andrea Tucker, chairwoman of the Bayside Neighborhood. "It's a good place to walk your dogs."
People also use the route to access the marina, she said.
The city has been trying to work out the issues with the contractor, Inco LLC of Tukwila, said John Petersen, the assistant director for park planning and maintenance.
The contractor has agreed to fix the problem for no additional charge and the work should be completed in the next month and a half, he said.
The city has had problems with work at this park before.
In 2009, the city paid a different contractor, Compass Northwest, $54,000 after a disagreement about improvements to the same walkway at the park.
Compass Northwest claimed it discovered errors with city's plans midway through the project. When the problem was brought to the city's attention, the city required the contractor to re-do some work but then didn't want to pay for it.
The city settled the claim but didn't admit any wrongdoing.
