The Mariners announced Monday they have signed veteran right-hander Kevin Millwood to a minor league deal with an invite to spring training, a move that was first reported by CBS Sports' Jon Heyman on Sunday.
The 37-year-old Millwood has played 15 season with Atlanta, Philadelphia, Cleveland, Texas, Baltimore and Colorado, and has a career record of 163-140 with a 4.10 ERA. Millwood made nine starts for the Rockies late last season, going 4-3 with a 3.98 ERA.
“Kevin brings a great deal of experience as a veteran pitcher and will compete for a spot in our starting rotation,” GM Jack Zduriencik said in a press release. “His leadership and experience will be a benefit for our young pitchers and we look forward to seeing him in spring training.”
Millwood played for current Mariners manager Eric Wedge and pitching coach Carl Willis with Cleveland in 2005, and led the American league with a 2.86 ERA that season.
