Expo will return to fairgrounds

The Evergreen Recreation and Sportsmen Expo, which includes carnival rides and a barbecue cook-off, is set for April 28 and 29 in Monroe.

MONROE -- Snohomish County plans to bring back its spring recreation expo in April for a third straight year.

The 2012 event has a new name and an extra day of carnival rides. Admission and parking are free.

This time around, it's being called the Evergreen Recreation and Sportsmen Expo.

The main event runs the weekend of April 28 and 29. It features vendors selling outdoor products.

The event also showcases local recreation spots, especially along the U.S. 2 corridor. Volunteers and nonprofits are likely to figure in as well.

Carnival rides are set to start a day earlier, on April 27.

Returning for a second time this year is the Sky Valley BBQ Championship, a two-day cook-off sanctioned by the Pacific Northwest Barbecue Association.

Last year, nearly 9,000 people attended the expo. The event netted the county about $10,000 and featured more than 50 booths.
