EVERETT -- Two people were seriously burned Friday afternoon when a house caught fire in the Silver Lake area.
The fire was reported just before 1:30 p.m. at a manufactured home in the 11900 block of Nels Peter Road, just west of the lake.
A man and a woman were taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, said Jerry Sheehan, a battalion chief with Snohomish County Fire District 1. The pair, both believed to be in their mid-40s, lived at the home.
The beige one-story home with maroon shutters and white trim showed heavy damage to its facade and near its front door.
Damage to the building was estimated at $95,000, Sheehan said. Another $35,000 in damage was done to the contents inside.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Snohomish County Fire Marshal's Office.
Crews also responded from Mill Creek and Clearview. Much of the road was shut down to make room for the fire vehicles and hoses.
A handful of neighbors watched the firefighters work.
Verena "Bean" Schuch and other neighbors corralled two dogs who lived at the home to keep them safe. They also called the school district to make sure a child who lived at the home wasn't dropped off by the bus.
They were waiting to find out if their neighbors were OK, Schuch said.
"We may not be the nicest of neighborhoods, but we do watch out for each other," she said.
