EVERETT — Snohomish County Executive Aaron Reardon’s Office on Thursday released nearly 3,000 pages of emails from the past three years as part of a continuing investigation by the Washington State Patrol of Reardon’s use of public funds.
Detectives are actively investigating Reardon’s spending and travel, patrol spokesman Bob Calkins said. The probe began more than three months ago. Calkins on Thursday declined to speculate how much longer it will last.
Reardon’s office expects to release more of his emails to detectives by Feb. 22. His staff previously released some 2,400 emails in December.
Emails released so far appear to contain no direct reference to a female county employee who sparked the patrol’s investigation. The woman approached County Councilman Dave Somers in October with claims she traveled with Reardon on out-of-town county business trips during which he did little work. The woman said she had a long affair with Reardon, who is married.
Reardon’s office previously provided detectives cellphone records and appointment calendars for the past three years. County attorneys referred the case to state troopers to avoid a conflict of interest.
