Prep boys basketball: Glacier Peak 61, Oak Harbor 49

OAK HARBOR -- The Glacier Peak boys basketball team is coming to expect big games from junior post Zach Pederson.

And Pederson is happy to oblige.

Pederson notched a double-double, scoring a game-high 25 points and grabbing 17 rebounds, as the Grizzlies defeated Oak Harbor 61-49 in a Wesco 3A game Monday night at Oak Harbor High School.

"He's very, very steady," said Glacier Peak head coach Brian Hunter of Pederson. "I think one of his strengths is just how consistent he is. Other kids just kind of feed off of that."

While Pederson led the Grizzlies on offense, the defense tried to keep track of Oak Harbor's offensive weapon, Mike Washington, Jr. Washington still managed to score 13 points despite the extra attention.

"We definitely focused on Mike quite a bit," Hunter said. "Our focus was trying to limit him to one shot. ... He's an explosive scorer. We just wanted to make him earn it."

Jamacio Webster led the Wildcats (6-9 league, 6-13 overall) with 16 points and Matt Burgoyne added 11 points and eight rebounds.

Glacier Peak (11-4, 14-5) remained in the top half of the Wesco 3A standings with the win. Austin Tarvin netted 10 points and Riley Preece came off the bench to score eight for the Grizzlies.

"It was just a really nice effort from everybody," Hunter said. "We had a lot of guys step up and have a really good game."
