Front Porch: Fundraiser for Japanese Gulch on Friday

Help the Gulch: The Japanese Gulch group is organizing an auction, Cajun dinner and live entertainment to raise awareness of Japanese Gulch.

The event is scheduled to start at 6 p.m. Friday, at the Rosehill Community Center, 304 Lincoln Ave, Mukilteo. It costs $65 and reservations are required.

For more information, go to www.japanesegulch.org/events.html.

Help tell your story: We're looking for people who have worked at the Kimberly-Clark's mill, or its predecessors, to talk with us for an upcoming story.

We want to talk history. We're particularly interested in families in which multiple generations may have worked at the mill.

Please contact Debra Smith at dsmith@heraldnet.com, or call 425-339-3197.

Highway 522 closure

Night drivers who use Highway 522 near Monroe may need to change their route tonight.

The state Department of Transportation is closing both lanes to install a new sign near the flyover ramp that connects the highway to U.S. 2.

The closures are scheduled from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. tonight and Thursday.

The closure is only about a mile. People who need to use Highway 522 can still get in or out using a detour through 164th Street.

The work is part of a larger project to widen the highway and to make it safer. For more information on the project, visit the website at www.wsdot.wa.gov/projects/sr522/us2interchange.
