2-alarm fire burns home in Monroe

MONROE -- A stubborn two-alarm fire in Monroe on Friday afternoon apparently started in a carport and spread into a home.

The fire was reported about 3 p.m. in the 400 block of W. Columbia Street, said Steve Guptill, assistant chief at Snohomish County Fire District 3 in Monroe.

The fire was extinguished about 90 minutes later, he said. No injuries were reported.

Investigators were working on Friday evening to determine what caused the fire and to evaluate the extent of the damage.

The American Red Cross was assisting people who lived at the home.

Crews responded from throughout east and south Snohomish County and north King County.
