Words of Martin Luther King Jr. part of Black History Monty event Wednesday at EvCC
EVERETT -- Hear an inspirational speaker reciting the words of Martin Luther King Jr. at Everett Community College as part of a celebration of Black History Month.
This free event for students, faculty, staff and the community is scheduled from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the college, 2000 Tower St., Baker Hall, Room 120
The speaker, Barry Scott, is scheduled to perform a tribute to King. Scott is known for teaching students about the Civil Rights movement, one of America's most violent and inspiring times.
Scott's portrayal of King is so convincing that Coretta Scott King, Martin Luther King's wife, complimented his honest depiction, according to Scott's website.
Scott's performance will be followed by a question-and-answer session.
"This celebration will honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and foster a sense of community, as we work in unity to keep the dream alive," said Karena Hooks, director of EvCC's outreach, diversity and equity center.
Members of EvCC's Student Activities Programs Board attended an annual conference where Scott performed last October. They were impressed.
"We chose him after reading his biography," said Lindsey Hudson, student activities manager.
Scott has performed King's speeches around the country and even for former President Jimmy Carter.
