Comcast Arena marks 4 million fans with free skating Sunday

Lace them up from noon to 2 p.m. at Comcast Arena

EVERETT -- If you've ever dreamed of skating around the same rink as the Silvertips, now's your chance.

Comcast Arena at Everett, 2000 Hewitt Ave., is opening up both its ice rinks for free to the public Sunday from noon to 2 p.m.

The event is in celebration of the arena's 4 millionth fan walking through the doors.

"We'd like to celebrate with the entire community," Kim Bedier, the arena's general manager.

Several Silvertips players are expected to be on hand. So too will the Silvertips mascot and Snow Plow Sam, the mascot from the National Figure Skating Association.

Professional instructors plan to teach the fundamentals of skating and hockey.

Draws will be held for raffle prizes. A cafe will be open with soup, sandwiches and the like for sale.

Only a limited number of free rental skates are available, so bring your own if you have them.

Organizers ask the public to enter through the Comcast Community Ice Rink on Broadway.
