GOP

Stand-up folks hard to come by

What in the world has happened to the GOP? I know, it happens -- every election, on all sides, but I can't remember any election that has brought the creeps out of the woodwork like this one. That no-class comment by, of all

people, RNC chairman Reince Priebus, comparing Obama to the Italian cruise ship captain who apparently can't steer, is not only insulting but shows a complete lack of respect for the office of the president.

Top that with the cast of characters running for the Republican nomination for president, still running or not, and you have to start to wonder, what happened to the John McCains, Bob Doles, Ronald Reagans, and Dwight Eisenhowers, of the past. Today we have two frontrunners -- one, as a typical one percenter, who thinks a few hundred thousand bucks "isn't very much" and whose campaign platform consists of blasting the other guy, and another that never met an ethic, personal or political, that he likes. It ain't the same party I remember and have voted with.

I don't, however, remember a presidential nominating race that has been more fascinating than this one. Unfortunately, the influence of "big money" is playing an ever-increasing role. Wall Street and corporations, with their huge donations of campaign financing money, have even more to say about who we vote for. It doesn't have to be this way, but only we can change that.
