Mariners add a pair of relief pitchers

The Seattle Mariners added depth to their bullpen Monday, signing right-hander Shawn Camp and lefty Hong-Chih Kuo to one-year contracts.

To make room on the 40-man roster, catcher Chris Gimenez and outfielder Mike Wilson were designated for assignment, meaning the Mariners have 10 days to trade, release or outright them.

In 2010, Kuo posted a 1.20 earned-run average for the Los Angeles Dodgers and became the first Taiwanese player to make a Major League All-Star team. Last season, however, he battled injuries and an anxiety disorder and had a 9.00 ERA in 40 games.

Camp, 36, appeared in a team-high 67 games for the Toronto Blue Jays last season, going 6-3 with one save and a 4.21 ERA

Gimenez played in 24 games with the Mariners last season, then was was not tendered a contract on Dec. 12, though he re-signed two days later. In parts of three three seasons with the Mariners, Gimenez has appeared in 97 games.

Wilson split last season between Seattle and Class AAA Tacoma. He made his major-league debut on May 10 and hit .148 with the Mariners.
