Everett: County government sets recycling goal
Snohomish County government wants to recycle 30 percent of its garbage by the end of the year.
The county plans to reach that goal through increased employee education and awareness. Workers also have installed new recycling receptacles for at county facilities.
County Executive Aaron Reardon said that meeting that goal would divert more than 35 tons of waste from landfills.
The recycling challenge is being led by the county's Office of Energy and Stainability as well as its Solid Waste and Facilities Management divisions. County employees have long had a recycling program. A recent assessment, however, found a significant amount of paper, cans, bottles and other recyclable materials being thrown in the trash.
