Smile, though your teeth are yellow: A study by the Centers for Disease Control found that smokers not only have more problems with their teeth than nonsmokers, they also go to the dentist less often. A full 20 percent of smokers said they had not seen a dentist in at least five years.

The other 80 percent had seen a dentist but only because they bumped into the doctor while they were both taking a smoke break.

I before E, except after Si: The Arizona Supreme Court affirmed a lower court's ruling that removed a city council candidate's name from the ballot for a March 13 election in San Luis because the woman doesn't speak English proficiently.

The court gave no reasoning for the decision, but a spokeswoman said a written ruling would follow at a later date, presumably so the justices had time go over the decision very, very carefully for proficiency in spelling, grammar and punctuation.

Don't know much about history: On this day in 1952, Queen Elizabeth II proclaimed her accession to the British throne following the death of King George VI.

And 60 years later, a Canadian newspaper proclaimed, "Celebrating 60 Glorious Years on the Throne," causing two visiting Americans to giggle like school kids in a Shoppers Drug Mart in Victoria, B.C.
