Lakewood officer accused of embezzling from fund

SEATTLE -- The U.S. Attorney's Office says a Lakewood police officer has been arrested and charged with embezzling more than $120,000 from the fund for the families of four Lakewood officers who were killed on duty.

The office says Skeeter Timothy Manos, 34, of Dupont, was arrested without incident Wednesday morning at Lakewood City Hall and was scheduled for an initial appearance Wednesday afternoon in federal court in Tacoma.

Manos is accused of diverting donations into a secret bank account. Federal authorities say he spent the money for purchases, trips to Las Vegas and cash withdrawals at casinos.

The public contributed more than $3.2 million to the families of the four Lakewood officers who were shot to death in November 2009 at a coffee shop.
