Prep boys basketball: Stanwood 60, Kamiak 55

STANWOOD -- Stanwood got off to a slow start, trailing 13-0 in the first quarter, before rallying to defeat Kamiak 60-55 in a first-round 4A District 1 boys basketball playoff game on Monday night.

"Our kids kept battling," said Stanwood head coach Zach Ward, "Our message at halftime was keep going, keep going, keep going. After the 13-0 start I felt we did a good job of playing our style from that point on."

Kamiak senior Ron Manchester almost spoiled the comeback. He scored 21 points -- all on 3-point shots.

"We were right in his face on three of them," said Ward. "He just shot the ball incredibly well tonight. We knew we needed to guard him. ... We actually did guard him but it didn't matter."

Stanwood plays at Jackson on Saturday. According to Ward, the two teams played in January, but he expects that both teams have changed a lot since then.

"We have two days to prepare for the game," Ward said. "The kids are excited to be in that game."
