CORRECTION: Republicans to caucus with old precincts, legislative districts but new congressional districts
When I reported last week that Republicans would hold precinct caucuses March 3 in Edmonds, Mountlake Terrace and Mukilteo, I said that the party would caucus with the old precincts, legislative districts and congressional districts, rather than the new precincts and districts that we’ll use for the 2012 primary and general elections.
Since then, Washington Republicans have changed the scheme.
Republicans will still caucus March 3 with their old precincts to send delegates to caucuses for their old legislative districts, but when they get to the state convention, they’ll caucus with their new congressional districts to choose three delegates from each to the national nominating convention, along with 10 at-large delegates.
Snohomish County Republican State Committeewoman Olga Farnam said Wednesday that she learned of the change at a state Republican executive board meeting last weekend.
Precinct caucuses are scheduled for one site in the 21st Legislative District, one site in the Snohomish County part of the 32nd District and four sites in the Snohomish County part of the 1st Legislative District.
Each precinct will caucus individually, but Republicans have pooled the caucuses so that voters can easily find them.
Caucusgoers need to show a voter registration card and photo identification. Registered voters who don’t have registration cards can ask the county auditor’s office for a new ones, copy one from the county auditor’s website or ask caucus organizers to look up their registration, a process that can require standing in line.
All precincts in the 21st Legislative District, whether they’re in Edmonds, Lynnwood or Mukilteo, will caucus at Kamiak High School in Mukilteo.
All precincts in the Snohomish County part of the 32nd Legislative District, whether they’re in Woodway, south Edmonds or nearby unincorporated areas, will caucus at the Snohomish County Public Utility District building in Edmonds,
Some precincts in the 1st Legislative District will caucus at Cedar Park Christian School in Mountlake Terrace. Others will caucus at the Kenmore Community Center or the Maltby Christian Church. One precinct will caucus at the Maltby Community Center.
Voters can find their caucus sites from the Snohomish County Republican Party website.
