Police seek witnesses who saw suspected burglar before fatal shooting

EDMONDS -- Detectives are asking for witnesses who may have seen a suspected burglar before he was fatally shot by a homeowner on Tuesday night near Edmonds.

Investigators have revealed little about what happened at the home along 225th Place SW before gunfire rang out, killing Kenneth Talley, 26, of Edmonds.

The Snohomish County Sheriff's Major Crimes Unit served a search warrant at the home in the Esperance neighborhood on Wednesday, bureau chief Kevin Prentiss said. They continue to interview potential witnesses. No arrests had been made as of Thursday afternoon.

Police believe the man who shot Talley was a 25-year-old who lived at the home, Prentiss said. There is no indication that the man knew Talley before the deadly encounter.

The man called 911 after the shooting, Prentiss said.

Talley had a couple felonies as a juvenile. His only serious legal trouble as an adult was a misdemeanor in 2009, according to court papers.

Detectives aren't discussing the circumstances of the shooting, or what they believe may have happened before shots were fired.

An autopsy determined that Talley died from multiple gunshot wounds to the head and torso.

He is described as white and 6 feet tall with a heavy build. He was wearing a black knit cap, gray sweat pants and a gray sweatshirt with a Seahawks logo. Anyone who saw him in the afternoon or early evening Tuesday is asked to call 425-388-3845.
