Prep boys basketball: Sultan 64, Burlington-Edison 61

SULTAN -- Sultan held off a late comeback attempt by Burlington-Edison to win the 2A boys basketball District 1 tournament play-in game game 64-61 on Thursday night.

With his team clinging to a 62-61 lead, Sultan's Sammy Cotterill sank two free throws with 3 seconds remaining to all but secure the win. The Tigers' half-court 3-point attempt at the buzzer was off the mark the Turks punched their ticket to the 2A District 1 tournament. Sultan travels to Lynden to take on the No. 1 seed from the Northwest Conference on Saturday at 7 p.m.

Brock VandenEkart record a double-double, scoring 19 points and grabbing 11 rebounds to pace Sultan.
