Seahawks re-sign tackle Breno Giacomini

It's been a quiet offseason so far for the Seahawks--no big shakeups in the coaching staff or front office, no major player news--but that should change soon with free agency set to begin next month and the draft coming up in April.
For now, however, teams can only deal with their own players, and the Seahawks have re-signed one of their free-agents-to-be, giving tackle Breno Giacomini a two-year extension. The team has not yet announced the move, but it has been posted on the NFL Players Association website, which doesn't happen until the deal is official (and a hat tip to Brian McIntryre, who runs the outstanding Mac's Football blog for noticing the signing on the NFLPA website. Giacomini will make $1.5 million in base salary in 2012 and $3 million in 2013.
Giacomini started eight games last season at right tackle, including the final seven of the year after starter James Carpenter went down with a season-ending knee injury. It would seem the Seahawks are set at right tackle having used last year's first-round pick on Carpenter, but Giacomini provides solid depth, and with Carpenter facing a long rehabilitation process to recover from a torn ACL, he may not be ready by the time training camp starts. There are also those who believe that Carpenter's long-term fit could be at guard, so it's not entirely out of the question that Giacomini could find himself in a starting role somewhere down the road.
Giacomini was a fifth-round pick of the Green Bay Packers in 2008, then was signed off of the Packers' practice squad by Seattle in 2010.
UPDATE: Right after posting, the Seahawks confirmed that Giacomini has indeed signed a multi-year deal. So there you have it. It's even more official now.
