Whidbey Island tour pairs chocolate and wine
The people behind the Whidbey Island Vintners Association came up with a perfect coupling to celebrate Valentine's Day and its homage to romance.
Locally made chocolate, may we introduce you to locally crafted wine?
For this year's Red Wine & Chocolate Tour on Whidbey Island, two local chocolate makers created specialty truffles infused with Whidbey Island-made wines.
The sweet treats are a highlight of a tasting tour that coincides with the romantic weekends preceding and following Feb. 14. That's this weekend and next.
Visitors who buy a ticket are welcome to visit six wineries on Whidbey, sampling the vintages and snacking on special treats, including the chocolates.
Whidbey Island-based Chocolates by George created truffles infused with Holmes Harbor Cellars' Syrah while Live Sweet Chocolates in Anacortes created custom chocolates for Blooms Winery and for Ott & Murphy Wines.
New this year, Spoiled Dog Winery, 5881 Maxwelton Road, has its debut. Spoiled Dog formerly shared a tasting room at a Taste for Wine, the Bayview Corners tasting room for Blooms Winery. Live music is scheduled to entertain visitors there.
Also on the tour, Comforts of Whidbey on Wilkinson Road between Clinton and Langley. Ott & Murphy Wines have their tasting room on First Street and Spoiled Dog Winery is on Maxwelton Road, both in Langley.
Holmes Harbor Cellars in on Honeymoon Bay Road. Finally, the Greenbank Farm Wine Shop on Day Road will pour wine for Greenbank Cellars.
