Arlington: Learn about early schools

Stillaguamish Valley Genealogical Society plans a free presentation about the early schools in the Arlington area at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the society's new location, 215 French Ave. S., next to the former Arlington High School building.

Loren Kraetz and Susan Walde plan to talk about and show photos of schools that no longer exist, including Haller, Garfield, Lincoln and Roosevelt schools, as well as the 1908 high school that burned in 1934, the 1936 high school and the new high school.

Everett: Get kids thinking about college

Everett Community College is hosting a free evening of workshops for elementary, middle school and high school students and their families at 5:15 p.m. Feb. 15 in EvCC's Student Fitness Center, 2206 Tower St.

Families with students of all ages can attend Family Night to learn about the benefits of obtaining a college education, ways to pay for college, earning college credit in high school, strengthening study skills and university transfer options.

Families can attend special sessions for elementary, middle-school and high-school students.

Attendees will receive free parking and a light dinner.

Marysville: PTA Council hosts auction

The Marysville PTA Council is planning a Founders Day Dinner and Auction on Feb. 21 at Kellogg Marsh Elementary School.

This year's theme is "A Night on the Beach" and features a menu of pulled-pork sandwiches, cole slaw and dessert.

The event costs $10 per person and payments must be sent by Tuesday to 6325 91st St. NE Marysville, WA 98270.

Money raised at the event will go toward senior scholarships.

Learn how to make cold process soap

Marysville Parks and Recreation plans to join Eugenie Savon Soaps to offer a class Saturday on making cold process soap.

The class is scheduled from 10:30 a.m. to noon in the Jennings Park Barn at 6915 Armar Road. Deborah Roscoe of Eugenie Savon soaps is set to show participants the process of blending handmade soap.

The cost of the class is $33 per person and includes taking home two bars of soap.

Snohomish: Applicants sought for review board

The city of Snohomish Design Review Board is seeking applicants to fill a vacancy. Applications are due by 4 p.m. on Feb. 24 at the city clerk at City Hall, 116 Union Ave. in Snohomish.

The board considers and reviews the rehabilitation and restoration of historic structures to encourage better design and site planning. A board member term runs for four years.

Applicants must have an interest in the city as a result from living, working, owning property or business, or belonging to one of the city's civic organizations. Board members are volunteers serving without compensation.

Design review board member Heather Mose submitted her resignation, and the appointee will fill out her term, which expires Oct. 7, 2013.

Applications are available at City Hall or online at www.ci.snohomish.wa.us.
