Prep boys basketball: Glacier Peak 54, Oak Harbor 37
SNOHOMISH -- Zach Pederson scored 24 points and the Grizzlies defense clamped down on Oak Harbor's Washington duo to key a 54-37 victory in a 3A District 1 Girls Basketball Tournament game.
Much of the Glacier Peak game plan revolved around trying to contain the Wildcats' Michael Washington Jr. and Drew Washington, who combined for 46 points and eight three-pointers in Oak Harbor's victory over Shorewood on Wednesday. The Grizzlies held Michael Washington Jr. to 15 points and Drew Washington to three.
"We played solid basketball, particularly on the defensive end," said Glacier Peak assistant coach Tim Tibke. "(We) were very happy that we didn't give up any three pointers"
Tibke also cited the third quarter as key. The Grizzlies outscored Oak Harbor 21-10 in the third to carry a 20-point lead going into the fourth.
"It was definitely our game plan to come out strong in the third," Tibke said. "It's something we've been trying to do all year."
Offensively, Glacier Peak moved the basketball well, continually feeding Pederson in the post. Mitchl Pohrman dished out eight assists and Jacob Davelaar had seven.
Glacier Peak plays Mountlake Terrace for the district championship and a state tournament berth on Friday at Mountlake Terrace H.S. Oak Harbor will face Ferndale on Tuesday in a loser-out contest.
