Bothell-area man faces assault charge after he allegedly concealed HIV infection from sexual partner

EVERETT -- A Bothell-area man is under investigation for assault after he allegedly failed to tell his sexual partner that he is living with HIV.

A woman called police in January after she found a prescription bottle in the man's shaving kit, according to a police affidavit filed Friday. She learned that the drug is commonly prescribed to patients with HIV. Left untreated the virus can develop into AIDS, a potentially deadly medical condition that can be spread through unprotected sexual intercourse.

The woman reported to investigators that the man, 52, never told her he was living with the virus. She also explained that they'd had unprotected sex. She sent pictures of the prescription bottle to investigators.

The woman also told detectives that she'd recently learned that the man's former wife had died of AIDS-related complications, according to court papers.

Detectives on Tuesday interviewed the man in the Snohomish County Jail. He had been booked a few weeks earlier on an unrelated warrant.

The man reportedly admitted that he's had HIV since the early 1990s, court papers said. He allegedly told detectives that he knowingly exposed the woman to the virus by having unprotected sex with her.

Detectives arrested the man for investigation of first-degree assault against the woman. He remained locked up Friday.
