The American Humane Society has presented a Pawscar to Uggie, a Jack Russell terrier, for his scene-stealing performance in "The Artist.''.

With the coveted award under his collar, Uggie is expected to command a lavish compensation package for his next screen role, including bottomless bags of sausage treats, a fur-lined dog bed and a cat constantly on call for Uggie to chase at his whim.



Don't know much about history: On this day in 1542, Catherine Howard, the fifth wife of King Henry VIII, was executed at the Tower of London for adultery.

The cruel, medieval punishment shows just how far we've advanced in the last 450-odd years. Today, adulterers not only get to keep their heads, they can even run for president.



Hole in the water: The Coast Guard Auxiliary in Edmonds will be teaching a couple of classes, one aimed at beginning boaters, the other intended for experienced skippers.
