McAuliffe says teacher evaluation bill still in flux
SEATTLE -- A state lawmaker says a proposed compromise on changing the way teachers are evaluated in Washington is not ready for a vote.
Sen. Rosemary McAuliffe, D-Bothell, says negotiators haven't had time to discover if the proposal would have enough votes to pass. She says they literally left negotiations in the governor's office and then headed over to the gay marriage bill signing without stopping to share the results of their meeting with anyone else.
Rep. Bruce Dammeier, a Republican from Puyallup, says he's ready to push a bill through the Legislature that would require school districts to use measures of student learning as a factor in teacher evaluations.
But McAuliffe says Dammeier has put the compromise in jeopardy by talking to the media about the proposal.
