Man shot by King County deputy claimed to have gun

AUBURN -- The King County sheriff's office says no gun was found in the room where a man claiming to have a rifle was shot by deputies.

The sheriff's office said a rifle was found in a safe outside the suspect's room.

Bellevue police are helping the sheriff's office investigate the Saturday night shooting that occurred at a home near Auburn where deputies helped arrest a man wanted by the state Department of Corrections. After that man was arrested, a second man in the home confronted deputies, claiming to be armed. When he reached for what deputies thought was a weapon, they fired.

The man was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. The Seattle Times reported he was in critical condition.
