Charge in fatal Redmond shooting

REDMOND -- King County prosecutors have charged a 21-year-old man with first-degree manslaughter in the fatal shooting of a young woman at a weekend party in the east Seattle suburb of Redmond.

Court papers say Cornelius DeJong IV of Redmond was charged Monday in Superior Court. He's accused of firing a .40-caliber semiautomatic handgun at a house party early Sunday morning. Police say the bullet traveled through a wall and struck 20-year-old Claire Thompson of Seattle, who was standing on the other side.

She was later pronounced dead at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

Neighbors reported hearing a loud party at the house. They say the woman who owns the home allows her grandson to live there.
