Learn how to help others learn how to grow their own food
The Washington State University Extension is offering training classes beginning March 3 for people to become Growing Groceries volunteer mentors, who then will help others learn to grow fresh fruits and vegetables.
The classes cover sustainable gardening practices and gardening in an environmentally friendly way. Speakers for the Saturday sessions include healthy eating expert Graham Kerr, Steve Smith of Sunnyside Nursery and Carol Miles, a WSU extension vegetable specialist.
The classes will be held from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. March 3, 10 and 17 and April 7 at the extension offices at McCollum Park, 600 128th St. SE, Everett.
The training continues with half-day gardening sessions on four more Saturdays in various locations on April 21, May 19, June 16 and July 21.
Tuition for all eight classes is $125 plus 35-hours of volunteer commitment, or $175 without the volunteer work. You must attend all classes to become a Certified Growing Groceries Mentor.
