Woman hurt by slow-moving train in Everett
EVERETT -- A woman was injured Monday night when she was hit by a slow-moving train in north Everett.
The woman, whose age was not immediately available, was discovered beneath the lead locomotive near the U.S. 2 trestle, officials said. The train was moving about 5 mph.
The Everett resident suffered cuts and bruises but her injuries were not considered life-threatening, said Gus Melonas, a Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway spokesman.
The woman was taken to a hospital for medical treatment, according to fire department records.
Why she was on the tracks was not immediately known, officials said.
She was on railroad right of way shortly before 7:30 p.m. when she was hit, Melonas said. The coal train had 123 empty cars and four locomotives. It was headed from British Columbia to Wyoming.
The train was delayed for about an hour.
"It's under investigation," Melonas said.
