Man in wheelchair in serious condition after he's struck by car

LYNNWOOD -- A 70-year-old man in a wheelchair was seriously injured after being struck by a pickup on Tuesday afternoon in the Lynnwood area.

The crash was reported just before 2:45 p.m. in the 15000 block of Highway 99, north of Lynnwood, said trooper Mark Francis with the Washington State Patrol.

Troopers believe the truck's driver was northbound on the highway trying to turn left into a business parking lot. A Bothell man was in a wheelchair on the sidewalk crossing the parking lot entrance, Francis said.

The truck hit the wheelchair. The man was thrown from the chair then hit by the truck.

He was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

The driver, 59, of Edmonds, stopped at the scene and was cooperating with law enforcement.

Troopers don't expect to make any arrests, but they may issue a traffic citation when they complete their investigation, Francis said.
