Parents need to fight child obesity

In the 1970s, 5 percent of children were obese, but 10 years later, in 2000, child obesity had gone up 15 percent! So I think parents should help stop child obesity because it can put children at risk of diabetes, heart disease and psychological problems. Now that you know my opinion, Obama has his own opinion.

"We all know the numbers," Obama said. "I mean, one in three kids are overweight or obese, and we're spending $150 billion a year treating obesity-related illnesses. So we know this is a problem, and there's a lot at stake."

So that means the government thinks they can stop child obesity on their own, but they're wrong. They need parents to help encourage and train their children to do what is right. It takes a lot more than exercise programs and eating right to lose weight; children need parents' support.

That's why parents should help control child obesity. The government can't do it by itself. We need you parents to step up and encourage your children to do the right thing so we can stop child obesity.
