UW's Barlow will travel, but might not play

SEATTLE -- The University of Washington women's basketball team is planning on bringing senior guard Charmaine Barlow on this week's road trip to Arizona.

Whether or not Barlow, the team's best perimeter defender, will be available to play Saturday is still to be determined.

Coach Kevin McGuff said a high ankle sprain has left Barlow's status in doubt.

"Still questionable for Thursday, at this point," McGuff said Tuesday afternoon, three days after Barlow sprained her ankle after an Oregon State opponent stepped on her foot in the first half of Saturday's loss.

Barlow said she's hopeful about playing Thursday.

"If we had a game tonight, probably not," she said Tuesday afternoon. "But we still have a couple days to go."

Sophomore Kellie McCann-Smith is likely to start in place of Barlow if the ankle is too sore come Thursday.

"I'm hopeful she can go," McGuff said, "but if she can't, it probably just means more minutes for Kellie -- possibly for (freshman) Aminah (Williams), also."
