Seems Like Yesterday

50 years ago (1962)

Dr. Rodney Kenneth Berg would be inducted as the fourth president of Everett Junior College in ceremonies tomorrow. The first junior college in the state had come of age in its 21 years. There were now 3,000 full and part-time students and 90 faculty members.

Five instrumentalists from Everett High School would play with the all-state band and orchestra at the Washington Music Educators Association meeting in Tacoma. They were Susan Hendrickson, Genie Nastri, Everett Goodwin, Nancy Stage and Rosie Patchett.

25 years ago (1987)

The new members of the board of directors for the Pilchuck Area of Camp Fire were Charlie Betts, Michael Brawner, Mary O'Connor, Shirley Betham, Dale Lyske, Krissy Blumenauer, Chris Foxe, Karen Lindsay, Kathy Moore and Sharron Schmoker.

Martha Jordan held Sam the swan as Rod King of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service watched. Sam was a trumpeter swan from Fairbanks, Alaska, that was wounded by a 22-caliber slug. Jordan, a wildlife biologist in Snohomish, nursed the bird back to health over the winter. Sam was being outfitted with a transmitter to see if he would find his way home.
