Teens accused of starting fire to home with mom inside

MOSES LAKE -- Moses Lake police officials say two teen daughters started a fire inside their house when their mother was in the bathroom.

The Columbian Basin Herald reports that the 16- and 17-year-old girls were arrested Wednesday and are being investigated for attempted murder.

Moses Lake Police Capt. Dave Ruffin says one or both of the girls lit a piece of paper and dropped it on gasoline they had poured on the floor outside of the bathroom of the residence.

He says the girls' mother was inside the bathroom, but she came out when the smoke alarm was triggered and was apparently able to extinguish the flames before authorities arrived on scene.

No reported injuries resulted from the incident.
