3-year sentence in Hanford credit card fraud case
RICHLAND -- An ex-Hanford manager who admitted in a plea agreement he used a federal credit card to embezzle $487,000 was sentenced Wednesday in federal court to more than three years in prison.
Paul Kempf, of West Richland, was a laboratory manager and used the credit card -- called a purchase card or P card -- to order lab equipment from a business run by his wife. The equipment was never delivered.
The U.S. Attorney's Office says Kempf used the money on car and boat expenses and home improvements. His wife, Anita Gust, was earlier sentenced to a year in prison for her role.
Paul Kempf's sentencing was the last for seven defendants who were accused in the spring of 2010 of Hanford credit card fraud.
