Big Head Todd & the Monsters, the Colorado band that continues to impress with its smooth, blues-laden rock and awesome performances returns to Seattle for a gig at the Neptune on Saturday.

Formed in the mid-'80s by a group of high school pals, the band has survived and thrived.

It has put out great albums and last year recorded "100 Years of Robert Johnson," which featured guest artists like B.B. King and other blues powerhouses. (The recording actually is under the name Big Head Blues Club, a nod to all the special performers.)

A previous album, "Rocksteady," is nice combination of Caribbean rock, blues and a great cover of the Rolling Stone's "Beast of Burden."

Harmonica player, kazooist and guitarist Roger Clyne is set to open the show.

The music is scheduled for 8 p.m. Saturday at The Neptune, 1303 NE 45th St., Seattle.

Tickets are $27.50 at stgpresents.org or 877-784-4849.

Bob Mould from the band Hüsker Dü plays a solo show at The Triple Door tonight.

The former punk rocker turned soloist just released a biography, "See a Little Light: The Trail of Rage and Melody." It's a tell-all about his journey through music, drugs and sexuality.

Mould is expected to read passages from the book and play solo acoustic.

The concert is at 8 tonight at The Triple Door, 216 Union St., Seattle.

Tickets are $25 at thetripledoor.net or 206-838-4333.

Regina Carter, a premier jazz violinist, will be at Dimitriou's Jazz Alley next week for a pair of shows.

She's playing from her critically acclaimed new album, "Reverse Thread." It's a gorgeous collection of African folk melodies played with innovative style by Carter and her band.

Joining her on stage is Yacouba Sissoko on the kora, an African harp, Will Holshouser on accordion, Chris Lightcap on bass and Alvester Garnett on drums and percussion.

The shows are at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday at Dimitriou's Jazz Alley, 2033 Sixth Ave., Seattle.

Tickets are $24.50 at www.jazzalley.com or 206-441-9729.

PUSAfest 2012 had been scheduled tonight through Sunday, but scaled back and now is just tonight and Saturday at the Showbox at the Market.

The festival features Seattle band the President of the United States (that's the PUSA part) with John Roderick, Daydream Vacation, No-Fi Soul Rebellion, and DJ Self-Administered Beatdown.

The show begins at 8 tonight and is all ages. Saturday's concert also starts at 8 p.m. and is restricted to 21 and over only.

Tickets are $20 in advance, $25 at the door. Buy them at showboxonline.com or 888-929-7849.
