Seems Like Yesterday
50 years ago (1962)
Anna Nymeyer of Everett was having her first novel, "From Sunshine Valley," published this summer by Carlton Press, Inc., New York. The book's form took that of a long letter describing her life in a new part of the country around Montrose, Colorado.
Boyd Turner punctured the commonly held idea that a woman could out-talk a man when he "talked down" Sharon Winkley in one of the feature events of the Valentine Dance at Snohomish County Boys Club. Black and King Office Supplies and Alley's Camera Shop sponsored the affair.
25 years ago (1987)
Kim Thomas, Cascade High School gymnast, was The Herald's female athlete of the week. She won the Northwest District championship in the balance beam and also qualified for this week's state meet in the vault, floor exercise and uneven parallel bars.
The male athlete of the week was Darrington High School's Evan Chittick. The Loggers' 129-pound wrestler was now 31-0. Coach Bill West said Chittick wanted to be 35-0. A senior, he was expected to do well this weekend at state at Big Bend Community College in Moses Lake.
