Inmate died in jail at Pasco of water intoxication

PASCO -- The Franklin County coroner says a man found dead at the county jail in Pasco died of accidental water intoxication.

Coroner Dan Blasdel said 55-year-old Henry Montelongo was taking medication that caused him to feel thirsty and drink excessive amounts of water.

His body was found Dec. 22 with no sign of foul play or suicide. He was alone in the cell.

KNDU reports he had been arrested Dec. 21 in a domestic violence case.

Water intoxication is rare but can cause death through an imbalance of electrolytes, disrupting brain functions.
