3A Boys Basketball District 1 Tournament: Shorecrest 61, Ferndale 57

MOUNTLAKE TERRACE -- It may not have been the easiest road that they could have taken, but after Friday's 61-57 win over Ferndale, Shorecrest finds itself just one win away from the 3A state regionals.

Shorecrest used a 17-10 run in the fourth quarter behind timely 3-point shooting to take control of what was a tightly contested game for the first three quarters.

"It was just guys making plays," Shorecrest coach Brian Fisher said. "We rely a lot on Junior (Chibuogwu) for our scoring, but you know I think what really tipped the balance was that Dylan (Pontrello) hit a shot or two, Keith (Shattuck) hit a couple of big 3s and when those guys are contributing especially in those situations than we are really tough."

Chibuogwu finished with 24 points, Shattuck chipped in 13 and Pontrello had nine.

With the win, the Scots move on to face Glacier Peak, who lost the district championship to Mountlake Terrace, on Tuesday night for the second and final 3A District 1 berth to regionals.

"We definitely drew the toughest games," Fisher said. "Playing Ferndale off the bat and having to play them twice and then Terrace and going to Shorewood, I don't think it gets any tougher than that."
