The Royals scored almost twice as many points as in their previous game, a 46-36 loss to Glacier Peak in the semifinals, and the bulk of those came from sophomore guard Jasmin Edwards.
"She what happens when we make shots?" Edwards said with a smile after the game. "We finally shot the ball well. We'd been struggling. Tonight's what we're capable of."
The Royals scored 21 points in the first quarter and 24 -- which was Ferndale's halftime score -- in the second. Edwards finished with 18 points, Arsenia Ivanov added 15 and Meghan Cross scored 12 for Lynnwood.
"Jasmin has a big heart," Edwards said of the five-foot-five guard. "Her effort for her size is amazing. Tonight she really stepped up for us."
The game was played at a predetermined location, which just happened to be Lynnwood High School. Edwards said it was important to his team for his four seniors, Cross, Zamzam Hufane, Casey Evans and Hailee Brodrick, to win their last game on their home floor.
"It's a huge advantage (playing at home)," Edwards said. "Our ladies just love the energy from our crowd and our student section."
Lynnwood has only lost one game at home all season.
This win was never really in doubt, with the Royals leading the whole way. Back-to-back steals and assists by Evans helped Lynnwood jump out early, as did four 3-pointers. Cross scored half of her 12 points in the first quarter.
The Royals will face Glacier Peak, which lost to Shorecrest 63-51 after Lynnwood's win, Tuesday at Mountlake Terrace High School. Lynnwood split the season series with both teams.
After his game, Edwards didn't know who his team would take on next, but he said he hoped his team can carry the momentum from this game against an opponent that would have just suffered a loss in the district championship game.
"One advantage is we're coming off a win and whoever we play is coming off a loss," he said. "For us to make it to this play-in game is a great thing for us. We're just really excited for Tuesday."
