SEATTLE -- A diver missing off West Seattle is presumed dead.

Seattle Fire spokesman Kyle Moore said the man was out with two other divers and a dive instructor Sunday morning in about 100 feet of water. One of the other divers reported that he appeared to panic and rose too quickly toward the surface, and when she herself rose to the surface, there was no sign of him.

The instructor signaled to people on shore who called 911. Seattle police and fire dive teams searched for the man, and a Coast Guard helicopter searched from above.

Moore said the water is unusually clear, with about 25 feet of visibility, but there's still no sign of him

The man's name was not immediately released. Moore said he was about 28 years old and had previously been on 50 dives. He was wearing a black drysuit and a gray tank.
