Avalanche danger closes Snoqualmie Pass; U.S. 2 closed at times
YAKIMA -- The avalanche danger caused by heavy rain on snow has closed Snoqualmie Pass, and I-90 traffic is blocked at Ellensburg and North Bend.
Transportation Department spokesman Mike Westbay in Yakima says the pass was closed at 1 a.m. Tuesday for avalanche control work that lasted until 5:30 a.m. when crews were pulled out for their safety, except for one truck on each side.
Westby says they'll re-evaluate the situation at 10:30 a.m., but no one can say yet when the pass will reopen.
U.S. 2 across Stevens Pass also has been closed off-and-on Tuesday morning for avalanche control.
