Inslee draws even with McKenna in new poll

A new survey released today shows the race for governor in Washington is as tight as expected.
Democrat Jay Inslee and Republican Rob McKenna are knotted at 42 percent apiece in the phone survey of 1,264 voters from Feb. 16-19 by the Public Policy Polling. The margin of
error for the survey, which was not paid for or authorized by any campaign or political organization, is plus or minus 2.76 percent.
For Inslee, the results are the first in recent months showing him in a dead heat with McKenna. But before anyone gets too carried away, the poll found McKenna ahead of Inslee among self-described independent voters 43-31 percent.
On other questions, the poll found:
-50 percent say they'll uphold the new gay marriage law versus 46 percent who won't.
-Initiative 502 to legalize marijuana is ahead 47-39
-53 percent of those polled disapprove of Gov. Chris Gregoire making her one of the most unpopular governors in the nation.
Public Policy Polling is a Democratic polling company, but, according to the organization, "polling expert Nate Silver of the New York Times found that its surveys in 2010 actually exhibited a slight bias toward Republican candidates."
