County rescue helicopter was almost named ‘Sasquatch'

Ever wondered how SnoHawk10 got its name?
That's the Snohomish County sheriff's rescue helicopter that plucks people off mountains, rooftops and flood plains in emergencies.
Awhile back, the Federal Aviation Administration told the helicopter crew that the chopper needed a unique name to identify itself while communicating with other aircraft and people on the ground, sheriff's Sgt. Danny Wikstrom said.
Wikstrom and the helicopter crews work closely with Snohomish County Search & Rescue. I wrote about one of their missions last week.
When the FAA told them they needed a helicopter name, the federal agency already had one in mind, Wikstrom said.
“They actually suggested to us ‘Sasquatch,” he said. “I said, ‘In no way are we going to be called ‘Sasquatch.'”
They had to think of an alternative, and quick.
Thus, SnoHawk10.
