Seems Like Yesterday

50 years ago (1962)

Paul Fredric Sjoholm, son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Sjoholm, 4931 Vista Place, shared the birthdate of the first U.S. president, George Washington. Paul was one year old today.

Dedication of the new Mukilteo Post Office at Third and Loveland streets was scheduled for the day after tomorrow. Former Mayor Alfred Tunem would emcee the event and William Andrew, field services officer coordinator, would give the dedication. Mayme C. Ross was the postmaster. Formerly holding that position were Jacob D. Fowler, Samuel S. Hassard, Louis H. Foster, Louise Sinclair, Helen Hadenfeldt and David E. Burklund.

25 years ago (1987)

Mariner High School graduate Eric E. Lewis was honored recently at the Navy's recruit training center at San Diego, receiving the Company Honorman and Navy League's "outstanding recruit" awards during graduation ceremonies.

The Lake Stevens High School girls basketball defeated Mount Vernon at the Northwest District AA Tournament at Marysville Junior High School. Steve Berg coached the No. 1 ranked Vikings, whose record was 21-0. Jordy Rose scored 21 points while Tanna Jackson put in 14. They would play Bainbridge for the championship.
